An art retreat in the heartland of Tasmania

Welcome to Oatlands Art Retreat, an art retreat designed for artists of all levels working in any medium to come together and work side-by-side, gain new creative inputs, and be inspired by Tasmania's landscape.

Over 4 days and 3 nights, work in the studio, landscape or town by day, then by night listen to exceptional speakers share insights into their creative practice and the role of place and history in the work that they do.

The Retreat in 2025

At the centre of this year’s retreat is a two-day masterclass with acclaimed artist and educator Megan Walch.
Participants will spend time learning and creating in our historic venues, while also drawing in the field, observing, experimenting, and painting en plein air under Megan’s guidance.

Acknowledgement of Country

Oatlands Art Retreat takes place in lutruwita/Tasmania, home of the nations of the palawa. We recognise the traditional owners of this country and their enduring custodianship of and belonging to these islands, skies, and waterways.

As a gathering of artists, we honour the stories, songs, art, and culture of the palawa peoples, and we pay our respects to their Elders, past and present. We acknowledge the Aboriginal people who continue to care for this country today and honour their aspirations for the future of their people and these lands.
