To book your place in Oatlands Art Retreat 2025, go to the Book page and enter your details into the booking request form. We will then be in touch to confirm your details and the specifics of your booking. An invoice will be sent once all details are confirmed. Payments is to be made by bank transfer at least four weeks before the start of the retreat (31/10/2025). Your place in the retreat is not guaranteed until full payment is made.
Full refunds are available for cancellations made prior to 27 October 2025. All other cancellations made up until 48 hours prior to the start of the retreat will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to the start of the retreat are non refundable. This policy does not apply to any accommodation booked in relation to the retreat - the stated cancellation policy of your chosen accommodation will apply.
Oatlands is located 81kms from Hobart and 115kms from Launceston in Tasmania's beautiful midlands. To get to Oatlands, the most convenient way is to hire a car. If you'd rather not drive, get in touch and we can assist you with private transfers (at your expense). We will do our best to match you up with other participants to make it more economical. Alternatively, there is a Kinetic bus service that travels through the midlands from Hobart to Oatlands or Launceston to Oatlands. Bus tickets need to be booked in advance - the timetable and details can be found here.
The weather in Oatlands can be unpredictable, and we strongly encourage you to bring warm layers and a water-proof jacket in the event of cold, wet or windy weather. The sun is strong outdoors, you should bring a hat and sunscreen. You are welcome to bring your own art materials (please make sure you pack your own brushes and journal or sketch book at a minimum). If you need to hire paint from us, you can do so at an additional cost.
We can cater to dietary needs such as vegetarian and vegan, or for food intolerances such as gluten or lactose-free; please let us know your requirement or intolerance at the time of booking.

Lunches provided will be a lunch box format. They will be available for collection at The Kentish Hotel. This will give you an opportunity to venture outside (weather permitting) or to 'grab and go' so you can keep working on your project.

Each evening a two course dinner will be provide at The Kentish with a vegetarian and a non-vegetarian option.​

How do I get to the retreat?
Participants are responsible for their own transport to and from Oatlands.​ The easiest way to get there is to hire a car and self-drive.
The drive from Hobart to Oatlands takes around 50 minutes. The drive from Launceston to Oatlands takes around 75 minutes.
Alternatively, we can help you with a private car transfer from Launceston or Hobart. Get in touch with us and we can help organise this for you at an additional expense. If you would like, we will endeavour to coordinate your transfers with other attendees to share the costs.

A bus services runs daily between Hobart/Launceston and Oatlands. Tickets need to be booked in advance and the timetable can be viewed here.

What should I bring with me?
The weather in Oatlands can be unpredictable, and we strongly encourage you to bring warm layers and a water-proof jacket in the event of cold, wet or windy weather. In the event of bad weather, you will be able to retreat to the studio for indoor work. If you are planning to work outdoors, you should bring a hat and sunscreen.
You will need to bring all of the necessary art materials for the masterclass. We will provide oil painting mediums, solvents, and easels so you do not need to travel with them. We will also provide drawing materials for sketching. If you are a plein air painter and prefer a particular easel type for working outdoors, we recommend that you bring this with you if you can.
Meals and dietary requirements
Lunch and dinner will be provided each day, along with a morning tea. Lunches will consist of sandwiches, quiches, boxed salads etc that are suitable to grab-and-go if you would like to venture out for a picnic lunch. Each evening, dinner will be provided at The Kentish Hotel. This will typically be a two-course meal with a vegetarian and non-vegetarian option.

We can cater to dietary needs such as vegetarian and vegan, or for food intolerances such as gluten or lactose-free; please let us know your requirement or intolerance at the time of booking. However, if you have a serious condition, such as coeliac disease please email us to discuss before booking. We cater to dietary needs rather than preferences.
Terms and Conditions of Booking
1. Oatlands Art Retreat offers art retreats in the Tasmanian Midlands (including speakers, masterclasses, art studio/venues and catering) to the Client. Airfares and accommodation are not included. The following terms and conditions of booking apply:
a) To reserve your place in an art retreat, the Client should complete the booking registration online. An invoice will then be sent to the client; on payment of this invoice, the reservation is confirmed.
b) The full balance of the art retreat must be paid at least 4 weeks before the start date.
c) If payment is not received by that 4-week date, Oatlands Art Retreat reserves the right to cancel the reservation.
d) For cancellations made up to 4 weeks before the retreat start date, the total retreat balance is refunded to the Client.
e) For cancellations made less than 4 weeks but more than 48 hours before the retreat start date, a 50% refund will be issued.
f) For cancellations made less than 48 hours before are non refundable.

2. If, for any reason, the retreat is cancelled by Oatlands Art Retreat, the full payment will be 100% reimbursed to the client. We only refund our own retreat fees, we do not refund the cost of travel, accommodation, or other third-party costs.
3. If a speaker or instructor withdraws prior to the retreat due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts or for personal reasons, Oatlands Art Retreat will replace that person with a speaker/instructor of similar standing. Clients will be notified immediately of such changes. No refunds will be issued because of a speaker change – the refund policy in part (1) will still apply.
4. If a speaker or masterclass instructor has to withdraw at the last minute due to illness, incapacity, or circumstances beyond our control, Oatlands Art Retreat will endeavour to replace that person with a speaker/instructor of similar standing. If this is not possible, Oatlands Art Retreat will proceed regardless and an alternate event/activity will be organised. Clients will be notified immediately of such changes. No refunds will be issued because of a speaker change or cancellation.
5. The Client is required to arrange travel insurance, including trip cancellation and liability cover, cover for their (or their party’s) personal belongings, accident and emergency cover, etc., since these are not covered by Oatlands Art Retreat’s insurance.
6. Clients shall take all reasonable and proper care of the studio spaces used during the retreat, including the property and its furniture, pictures, fittings and effects in or on the property, and leave them in the same state of repair as they were found at the start of the retreat. Any damage to the property resulting from the Client’s negligence will be charged for by the venue owner or Oatlands Art Retreat.
7. Oatlands Art Retreat shall not be liable to the Client for:
a) Any temporary defect in the supply of public services to the location of the retreat/workshop, nor in the respect of any equipment, machinery or appliance in the property or garden.
b) Any loss, damage, illness or injury which is the result of adverse weather conditions or other matters beyond Oatlands Art Retreat’s control.
c) Any accident, damage, loss or inconvenience the Client or any member of the Client’s party may suffer arising out of, or in connection with, the retreat/workshop.
d) No responsibility can be accepted for loss or damage to any motor vehicle or trailer belonging to or rented by the Client, or for loss of or damage to its contents.
e) Personal belongings are at the Client’s risk at all times.
8. The Client shall accept responsibility for the safety of their person and all members of their party at all times.
9. It is with regret that Oatlands Art Retreat is unable to fully accommodate guests with wheelchairs due to the nature of the retreat and workshop locations.

10. Smoking is not permitted inside any venues used in association with Oatlands Art Retreat.
